BJP's Nainar Nagenthran Addresses LPG Concerns in India
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 10 (NationPress) In light of recent reports indicating that numerous hotels in Bengaluru have temporarily closed due to a supposed shortage of LPG cylinders, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nainar Nagenthran refuted the claims of a nationwide gas shortage on Tuesday, stating emphatically that there is "no scarcity of cylinders anywhere in the country".
The situation has drawn attention following reports of several hotels in Bengaluru halting operations, citing challenges in procuring commercial LPG cylinders.
Additionally, the Union government has indicated that priority supply will be given to domestic LPG cylinders.
The government has categorized LPG cylinders as essential commodities, cautioning that stringent measures will be enforced against individuals hoarding cylinders or participating in illicit storage.
Despite these concerns, BJP leader Nagenthran asserted that the situation has been overstated and maintained that there is no LPG shortage in India.
In his remarks to the press, the Tamil Nadu BJP President clarified that the supply chain for LPG cylinders is steady, with current regulations ensuring a fair distribution system among consumers.
He explained, "A single LPG cylinder typically lasts between 30 and 40 days for a household. A consumer can only book a subsequent cylinder after a wait of 20 days following their initial order. Hence, those trying to order another cylinder immediately are not adhering to the system. Therefore, the notion of a shortage is unfounded".
Moreover, the BJP leader dismissed assertions that diminished menu offerings or operational challenges faced by certain hotels are attributable to a lack of LPG cylinders.
According to Nagenthran, opposition parties are disseminating false information by linking restaurant issues to gas shortages.
He stated, "Opposition parties are falsely claiming that the closures of hotels stem from a scarcity of cylinders. This is simply not the case. There is no shortage to be found anywhere".
The BJP leader expressed confidence in the resilience of the country's economy, asserting that global disruptions would not endanger India's energy supply.
"Even in the event of a war erupting in some part of the world, India will remain unaffected economically," he asserted.
Nagenthran, who has personal experience in the restaurant industry, added that he is a gas dealer and is ready to provide gas supply whenever needed.
"If anyone requires gas, I am prepared to assist," he stated.
His comments arrive amidst rising concerns regarding LPG supply in various regions of the country due to global energy challenges and heightened demand for domestic cylinders.
Nevertheless, government officials have reiterated that sufficient supplies are being maintained, with domestic consumers receiving top priority.
