Did BJP Just Expose Congress's Alleged Hooliganism and Disrespect to National Icons?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 21 (NationPress) In a fierce critique of the Congress, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla accused the party of engaging in "anti-national theatrics", showing disrespect towards India's cultural icons, and exploiting protests for political advantage. He claimed that Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, have consistently disrespected national symbols and spread false information against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Speaking to IANS, Poonawalla condemned Congress for a recent shirtless protest, which he alleged was inappropriately linked to the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.
"Initially, the Congress Party was just shirtless, but now they have become characterless, tasteless, shameless, pointless, and brainless. To compare their hooliganism to Mahatma Gandhi is sheer audacity," he remarked, asserting that such actions contradict India's foundational values.
He further accused the Youth Congress activists of attempting to disrupt a national event, claiming that the party's leadership had tacitly supported this behavior.
"The actions of the Youth Congress hooligans at the AI Summit aimed to undermine the event. We expected the Congress Party to exhibit some sense, but their endorsement of these actions and comparisons to Mahatma Gandhi or Bhagat Singh confirmed they acted under Rahul Gandhi’s directives," Poonawalla alleged.
He specifically targeted Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, pointing to a viral video where she reportedly disrespected Assam’s traditional ‘Gamosa’.
Poonawalla also referenced a past incident involving Rahul Gandhi, where he allegedly showed disregard for this cultural symbol during an official reception.
"These siblings (Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi) harbor a significant aversion to the Northeast, particularly Assam," he stated, accusing the Congress of undermining the region's culture and traditions.
Poonawalla further criticized Rahul Gandhi concerning ongoing legal issues, alleging he made defamatory statements about the RSS.
"Rahul Gandhi is among the greatest liars in both India and the world. His lies about Savarkar and the RSS have led him to face multiple court appearances," he asserted, adding that the Congress leader is due in court in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra related to a defamation case.
These remarks by the BJP spokesperson come amid escalating political tensions between the BJP and the Opposition INDIA Bloc regarding the recent shirtless protest by the Indian Youth Congress and public statements.
