New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) In response to the uproar surrounding provocative slogans directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Congress rally, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra stated on Monday that no such remarks were uttered by any individuals on the stage.

The issue came to light following the Congress party's "Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod" rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday. Several clips captured Congress supporters chanting inflammatory slogans like "Modi teri kabar khudegi" as they moved towards the venue, which drew severe backlash from the BJP.

While addressing the media outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi dismissed the accusations and questioned the BJP’s motives for bringing up the matter during parliamentary discussions.

“We were trying to ascertain who actually made these statements. No one on the stage said anything like that. Subsequently, we learned that a member of the crowd or a worker might have uttered such a comment, but the identity remains unclear,” she remarked.

She further wondered why this topic continued to surface in Parliament.

“Why is this being discussed in the House? It seems they do not wish for the session to proceed smoothly. Then why bring up such issues during Question Hour? I believe they are not interested in allowing the session to run. We sought a discussion on pollution, yet they are obstructing that. If they don’t want Parliament to function, they might as well shut it down, which would at least help reduce pollution,” she added.

Congress MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka also responded, stating that he was present throughout the event and did not hear any inappropriate slogans.

“Thousands attended, including a significant number from Odisha. Approximately five to six lakh individuals participated in the rally from various parts of the country. We did not hear any objectionable chants, nor did anyone from our side raise them,” he explained.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari distanced the party from the controversial slogans.

“The Congress party did not make any personal remarks, so how can we respond? Conversely, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has frequently used harsh language against our leaders, which should also be acknowledged. It has become routine for him to employ such language,” he added.

Congress MP Vivek Tankha stated he was unaware of any such slogans being raised.

“I hadn't heard about it. If such slogans were indeed raised, I am not privy to that information. I would never support any derogatory remarks against any leader,” he mentioned.

Congress MP Mallu Ravi pointed out that while some individuals might have chanted slogans, none of the party's leaders were involved.

“We should not hold the leadership accountable for the expressions of ordinary people,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the objectionable slogans directed at Prime Minister Modi during the Congress rally and called for a public apology from the party leadership in Parliament.

Speaking to the press, Rijiju asserted, “The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is recognized globally and by the 1.4 billion citizens of our country as the leader of the world’s largest democracy. It is incredibly distressing if some opposition members have called for his harm. Mere denial is insufficient.”

“The Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament should apologize to the nation. If there exists any sense of humanity and respect for the country and society within the Congress Party, they ought to promptly apologize openly in Parliament to the citizens. Only then will we comprehend that a mistake was made, and that the Congress Party has recognized it,” he added.

The Lok Sabha was also momentarily adjourned as the treasury benches raised the issue of derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Modi during Congress' protest rally concerning the alleged 'vote chori'.
