New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) In response to the objectionable slogans purportedly directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Congress rally, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut expressed her disapproval on Monday, stating that such expressions wishing for a person's death are both deeply hurtful and unacceptable.
The controversy ignited following the Congress party’s rally titled “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod”, which took place at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on Sunday. Multiple videos circulating on social media depicted Congress supporters chanting provocative slogans, including “Modi teri kabar khudegi”, while making their way to the event, which drew severe criticism from the BJP.
Addressing reporters outside Parliament, Ranaut articulated her strong discontent with the language employed against the Prime Minister.
“Wishing for someone’s death or raising such slogans is deeply hurtful. We, as a nation, are wounded by the language directed at Prime Minister Modi,” she asserted.
She contended that political disagreements should not devolve into personal attacks.
“Politics should not transform adversarial ideologies into enmity. Such expressions are extremely painful and should not be tolerated. The entire nation feels the impact of this,” the BJP MP remarked.
During her remarks, Ranaut underscored Modi’s widespread support, stating, “140 crore citizens have chosen Narendra Modi as their leader. He is one of the most cherished leaders in the country, with admiration that transcends borders. Such statements are truly distressing.”
She went on to declare that if political dialogue has degraded to this level, it poses a threat to both democracy and societal integrity.
“While disagreements are a natural element of politics, this kind of rhetoric diminishes the dignity of public discourse and warrants strong condemnation,” she added.
In response, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra clarified that no such remarks originated from the stage.
Addressing the media, Priyanka Gandhi dismissed the accusations and questioned the BJP's motives for raising the issue during parliamentary discussions.
“We were exploring who made these statements. No one on the stage uttered anything of that nature. We have learned that the remarks may have come from the crowd or a party worker, but it remains unclear who that was,” she explained.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also condemned the objectionable remarks directed at Prime Minister Modi during the Congress rally, demanding an official apology from the party leadership in Parliament.
In his remarks to the press, Rijiju said, “The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is revered globally and by the citizens of our 1.4 billion-strong democracy. It is extremely disheartening if some members of the opposition call for his death. Simple denial is insufficient.”
“The Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition should publicly apologize to the nation. If there is any sense of humanity and respect within the Congress Party, they must not hesitate to apologize openly in Parliament to the citizens of this country. Only then will we recognize that a mistake was made and that the Congress Party acknowledges it,” he added.
The Lok Sabha was also adjourned as treasury benches raised concerns over the derogatory remarks aimed at Prime Minister Modi during Congress's protest rally regarding alleged 'vote chori'.
