Bengaluru, March 20 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP declared on Thursday that it will not permit the Congress-led government to advance with the Bill proposing a Muslim quota in civic tenders.

Addressing the press at Vidhana Soudha, BJP State President B. Y. Vijayendra asserted, "The Congress government aims to allocate a 4 percent reservation for Muslims in civic tenders, but when the Bill is put to a vote in the Assembly on Thursday, we will oppose it. Our position is already clear. We vehemently denounce this initiative and will prevent the government from proceeding further with it."

Vijayendra warned that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will face repercussions for this decision, and the BJP plans to initiate a protest against it.

The BJP leader accused the state administration of practicing appeasement politics and disrespecting Hindus.

"Does the government overlook the impoverished Hindus? Why the focus solely on Muslims? This exemplifies yet another case of minority appeasement politics. Recently, I witnessed several Muslim individuals on motorcycles in Bengaluru, brandishing knives. This showcases the current condition in Karnataka. The law and order situation is worsening due to the government's appeasement policies," he claimed.

In light of the opposition, the ruling Congress introduced the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Amendment (KTPP) Bill on Tuesday, which seeks to allocate a four percent quota for Muslims in government tenders.

The Bill has been put forth as part of the 2025-26 Budget proposal, aimed at tackling unemployment.

This legislation is designed to promote involvement from individuals classified in Category 2B of the Backward Classes in government construction projects, ensuring that their participation does not exceed 4 percent of the total projects. Muslims fall under Category 2B.
