New Delhi, Sep 25 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially kicked off a comprehensive 90-day initiative aimed at promoting Swadeshi and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, starting from September 25, commemorating the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, and concluding on December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
During a press briefing at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Arun Singh, the party’s National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, announced that this campaign is a response to the call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will strive to make “Vocal for Local” a movement embraced by the populace.
“From September 25 to December 25, BJP members nationwide will visit every home to spread the message of 'Swadeshi'. Over 20,000 Aatmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp gatherings, 1,000 Swadeshi Melas, and 500 Sankalp Rath Yatras will be held. Additional activities such as padyatras, youth forums, women’s meetings, traders’ conferences, college contests, and social media campaigns will also be included,” Singh remarked.
He emphasized that the primary goal of the campaign is to motivate citizens to purchase Indian-made products, bolster domestic industries, and celebrate India's economic progress.
“Every store will be encouraged to showcase signs declaring ‘Proudly Swadeshi’. Citizens will be invited to sign pledges to adopt Swadeshi. Certificates will be awarded to shopkeepers who exclusively sell indigenous goods,” he added.
Reflecting on the historical significance of the movement, Singh recounted the importance of Swadeshi during the freedom struggle amidst the 1905 Bengal partition, highlighting how figures like Rabindranath Tagore and Bankim Chatterjee epitomized the spirit of self-sufficiency against colonial domination.
He noted how Prime Minister Modi’s 2019 call for “Vocal for Local” has revolutionized industries such as Khadi, mobile production, toys, automobiles, and exports.
“Sales of Khadi have surged from ₹31,000 crore under the UPA to ₹1.7 lakh crore today. India, which had only two mobile factories in 2014, now boasts 300 units and exports phones worth ₹2 lakh crore,” Singh stated.
The BJP leader reiterated that this campaign is centered around economic self-sufficiency and cultural pride, rather than boycotts.
“This vision will guide India towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Modi,” he concluded.
