Kolkata, June 30 (NationPress) BJP leader Rahul Sinha vehemently criticized senior Trinamool Congress leaders Madan Mitra and Kalyan Banerjee for their controversial comments following the Kolkata law college gang-rape incident. Sinha demanded stringent action against them, emphasizing that individuals who cannot respect women should not hold public office.
"Madan Mitra is a drunkard. His remarks are unfounded. He seems detached from reality. Furthermore, Kalyan Banerjee is utterly shameless. Those who fail to honor women and question their integrity ought to face severe repercussions. I call upon the government to take necessary measures against these two," Sinha expressed to IANS.
Kalyan Banerjee ignited controversy by asserting that government agencies cannot guarantee safety when a friend assaults another friend, a statement that faced backlash from various political and civil society groups.
In a provocative twist, Madan Mitra suggested that the gang-rape incident should serve as a warning to girls against attending college during closures.
This uproar follows the arrest of three individuals associated with the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the student faction of the TMC, in connection to the gang-rape case. The accused, Monojit Mishra, Jaib Ahmed, and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, were identified as "M", "J", and "P" in the FIR.
Sinha further claimed that the rise in crimes against women in West Bengal is a result of the culture of impunity perpetuated by the ruling Trinamool Congress.
"All rapists, criminals, and terrorists are linked to the Trinamool Congress. This is because they believe they can act without fear of consequences; neither the police nor the law will intervene. This is why, in the rape cases that have occurred, not a single perpetrator has faced justice," he declared.
He also directly criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of shielding offenders rather than supporting victims.
"This situation persists because the female CM of West Bengal never advocates for victims, always defending the rapists. Despite being a female CM, Mamata backs the oppressor instead of the victim. This is why incidents of violence and rape continue to rise in West Bengal," Sinha stated.
