New Delhi, May 16 (NationPress) A political uproar has ensued following SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav’s contentious remarks alleging caste and religion-based discrimination in Uttar Pradesh, specifically mentioning the caste of senior Defence officials.

The comments have elicited strong backlash from numerous BJP leaders, who have accused Yadav of undermining the sense of national pride and unity fostered by the actions of the Indian armed forces.

BJP leader Danish Azad Ansari stated, “The SP has consistently sought to fracture and divide society. At a time when the entire nation takes pride in the valor of our armed forces, Ram Gopal Yadav should be expressing gratitude instead of making such divisive statements.”

Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad echoed this sentiment, firmly rejecting Yadav’s remarks. “This is inappropriate. In the name of the nation, all castes, religions, and communities are united. The nation is supreme; caste is insignificant,” he emphasized.

“They ought to be thankful to our government, which has opened doors for all segments of society. When in power, they suppressed Dalits, and now in Opposition, they feign affection for them. I personally faced this discrimination in 2015. Supporters of the Nishad name were assaulted. Such statements are intolerable,” he added.

BJP MLA Ravinder Singh Negi also voiced his opinion, stressing the importance of national unity. “We are all citizens of India. We should take pride in anyone who serves the country, regardless of caste or religion. Our daughters, like Sofiya Qureshi, have made the nation proud, and 140 crore Indians salute such courageous individuals. Nobody should be demoralized by such divisive remarks.”

The controversy ignited after Yadav posted on the social media platform X, “If these abusers had known that Vyomika Singh is Jatav and Air Marshal Awadhesh Bharti is Yadav, they would not have refrained from abusing these officers as well.”

He further stated, “In some regions of North India, especially Uttar Pradesh, false cases are being filed on the basis of religion, caste, and class. Properties are seized, and encounters are executed using this bias. Even the postings of officials are being conducted on such grounds.”

BJP leaders quickly condemned Yadav’s statements as divisive and inappropriate.

The BJP has framed Yadav’s comments as an effort to communalize and caste-politicize issues related to national defense, a realm that typically transcends political and social divides.
