New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Delhi BJP General Secretary and MP Yogendra Chandolia has stated that the leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) must clarify the whereabouts of the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, who is currently facing backlash over her controversial comments made in the Assembly.
On Sunday, Chandolia expressed that AAP leaders have been insisting that Atishi did not disrespect Sikh Gurus. He remarked, "If that is the case, the AAP leadership should clarify why Atishi has been distanced from the public and media since January 6, when she made her contentious statement."
Chandolia noted that on January 7, AAP MLAs objected to a video shared on social media by Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, demanding an investigation from Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta.
“However, within hours, the AAP leadership retracted the demand from the MLAs and had an FIR lodged in Punjab, producing an inquiry report within just one day. How could this be possible?” he questioned.
The Delhi BJP MP further probed the AAP leadership on why, if they had concerns regarding the incident in the Delhi Assembly, they did not file an FIR in the capital.
Chandolia asserted that now both AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann share the blame for disrespecting Sikh Gurus, alongside Atishi.
Previously, while commenting on Atishi's remarks, New Delhi BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj claimed that any statement made in the Delhi Assembly requiring investigation falls under the legal purview of the Assembly Speaker.
During a press briefing addressing the insulting comments made by Atishi about the Sikh Gurus, Swaraj stated that in their rush to shield Atishi, the Punjab Police was misused to investigate a matter that did not pertain to them.
Swaraj criticized the AAP for consistently abusing governmental resources to silence democracy, media, and any form of dissent.
"When it comes to their own faults, they respond with even greater arrogance," she added.
"On January 6, while discussing the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Atishi used inappropriate language regarding the Sikh Gurus, and instead of apologizing, she has gone into hiding," Swaraj concluded.
