New Delhi, July 3 (NationPress) The shocking incident of rape involving a ‘delivery boy’ in a high-end residential community in Pune has left both the city and the nation reeling from the severity of the crime and the audacity of the offender.
After assaulting a 22-year-old tech professional in her own home, the perpetrator, who masqueraded as a courier delivery agent, chillingly left a note stating, “I will come again.”
Although law enforcement acted swiftly and apprehended the suspect within hours of the incident, the horrifying event has raised pressing questions about the ineffectiveness of policing in the state, as well as concerns for the safety of working women living alone.
In the aftermath of this tragic event, the Maharashtra government has faced intense criticism not only from local opposition parties like Congress and NCP-SP but also from external political factions.
The Trinamool Congress criticized the government led by Devendra Fadnavis concerning the rape incident of the techie in Pune, insisting that the criminal must face justice without delay.
Trinamool Congress MP Parth Bhowmik ridiculed the current situation for women in Maharashtra, stating: “This is BJP’s India. Wherever it holds power, women are not respected.”
MLA Somnath Shyam from the Trinamool Congress expressed his outrage over the disgraceful incident, condemning the state government for its failure to uphold the dignity of women.
“Governments must take exemplary action against offenders. This is unacceptable, no matter where it occurs,” he remarked.
Nana Patole, former chief of Maharashtra Congress, harshly criticized the state government for the declining law and order situation.
“In Maharashtra, individuals are no longer safe—whether on the streets or even within their own homes. The government prioritizes party strength over public welfare, leading to incidents of rape even in a city like Pune, which is known as the cultural capital of Maharashtra,” he said.
“Women are unsafe. This issue extends beyond Pune; it is prevalent throughout Maharashtra,” he added, accusing Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla of acting like a ‘BJP worker’.
NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar stated: “On average, 27-28 girls under 18 face incidents of rape, gang rape, or molestation every day. Many of these victims approach the police. The Pune incident is tragic.”
The crime took place around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in a residential society in Pune's Kondhwa area, with the assailant posing as a delivery agent.
DCP Rajkumar Shinde provided details about the incident, stating: “A delivery boy entered the residential society where the victim lives, claiming to deliver a bank envelope. He asked her for a pen, and when she went inside to retrieve one, he forcefully shut the door and assaulted her.”
