Bengaluru, March 7 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP expressed strong disapproval of the State Budget on Saturday, claiming it has deceived the citizens, especially those from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
During a press briefing in Bengaluru, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, stated that the Budget introduced for 2026–27 by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also serves as the Finance Minister, has not fulfilled its promise of justice for underprivileged communities.
"The Congress government came to power with the promise of 'free, guaranteed, and certain'. Yet, for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, it has delivered free promises, guaranteed betrayal, and certain destruction for those who placed their trust in them," he asserted.
Narayanaswamy mentioned that over the past four years, the government has allocated a total of Rs 1,56,701 crore.
However, almost half of this amount—Rs 78,350 crore—has been redirected under Section 7C to other departments like Public Works and Irrigation, he claimed.
From the remaining Rs 78,350 crore, approximately Rs 53,059 crore has been spent on executing the government’s guarantee schemes.
He pointed out that of the total Rs 1,56,701 crore earmarked over four years, only Rs 25,291 crore is left for actual welfare initiatives aimed at SCs and STs.
Narayanaswamy criticized the government for announcing allocations in 2025–26, which included Rs 125 crore for the Ambedkar Development Corporation, Rs 75 crore for the Tanda Development Corporation, Rs 62 crore for the Adi Jambava Development Corporation, Rs 68 crore for the Bhovi Development Corporation, Rs 31 crore for the Safai Karmachari Development Corporation, Rs 156 crore for the Valmiki Development Corporation, and Rs 43 crore for the LIDKAR Corporation, amounting to a total of Rs 562 crore.
He alleged that even this amount has not been fully disbursed, claiming less than Rs 50 crore has actually reached the Ambedkar Development Corporation.
"Despite an allocation of Rs 52,000 crore specifically for guarantee schemes in the Budget, the government has again siphoned off Rs 14,000 crore from SC and ST funds. Where has this money gone?" he questioned.
He called on Congress leaders to respond to these accusations, asserting that the government has misled Dalits.
