Pathanamthitta (Kerala), June 23 (NationPress) The heart-wrenching wait for the bereaved family of Kerala nurse Renjitha Gopakumar, who tragically lost her life in the Air India flight AI 171 crash shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on June 12, has finally come to an end. Her body was identified on Monday through a DNA match, and it is set to arrive here on Tuesday.
Following the devastating incident, her brother Ratheesh Gopakumar traveled to Ahmedabad on June 13 and has remained there, desperately searching for her remains.
Initially, a DNA sample from Ratheesh was collected, but it did not match, leading to a sample being taken from their mother instead.
On Monday, the heartbreaking news came that the mother’s DNA had matched, and Ratheesh is now preparing to receive the body, which will be flown from Ahmedabad to Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway at the school where Gopakumar studied, as the community in her hometown wishes to allow the public to pay their final respects.
In the late afternoon, her body will be transported from the school to her home, where it will soon be cremated.
Having worked in London for less than a year, she had returned home for a short holiday earlier this month.
Before her time in London, she was employed in the Middle East.
Renjitha had taken an extended leave from her position in the government health service to explore her options for returning.
Additionally, she was in the process of building her new home and had planned to celebrate the housewarming on June 28. Tragically, her body will now be displayed in her partially completed new home for the last time on Tuesday.
Renjitha leaves behind two young children who have been studying in her hometown since she relocated to London last year.
