New Delhi, September 20 (NationPress) In an effort to reinvigorate both national and international live events and concerts in Delhi, the Central Government alongside the Sports Authority of India (SAI) have slashed booking fees for all major stadiums by 40% to 50%, as confirmed by an official on Saturday.
Delhi's Minister of Art, Culture and Languages and Tourism, Kapil Mishra, stated, “This important initiative aims to position Delhi as the most event-friendly city in India and to transform it into a global hotspot for live entertainment and the concert economy.”
“Following extensive discussions with Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and two roundtable meetings with industry leaders, this landmark decision has been made today. This initiative is crucial in establishing Delhi as a center for the concert economy,” he added.
He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is to make Delhi a central hub for live events and the concert economy; however, discussions with industry stakeholders highlighted that high booking costs were a significant barrier to this goal.
Due to these high fees, many event organizers opted to host events in other cities such as Mumbai, Gurugram, and Noida.
Earlier this month, Mishra met with Mandaviya to discuss the vision of establishing Delhi as a ‘Global Event Hub.’ Senior representatives from the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA) and the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) also engaged in these discussions.
The talks centered around lowering rental costs of major Delhi stadiums and streamlining event procedures, with Mandaviya assuring that all necessary steps would be taken to position Delhi as a global center for cultural activities and live entertainment, according to a statement from the Delhi government.
