New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) The Outer North District Police have arrested a 25-year-old bootlegger who was found transporting a staggering 5,736 bottles of illicit liquor concealed within sacks of cattle feed in the Shahbad Dairy area, according to officials on Saturday.
The suspect, identified as Saurabh Singh, the son of Kehar Singh and a resident of Vijay Vihar, was intercepted late on September 10 following a tip-off to the authorities.
Singh, a known repeat offender with two prior cases under the Excise Act, was allegedly transporting liquor from Haryana to Delhi for unlawful sale. The Delhi Police stated that a covert informant tipped off Head Constable Jaideep during a routine patrol about the illicit consignment.
A rapid response team, led by Inspector Pramod Tomar and including SI Rohit Khasa, ASI Narender, HC Jaideep, and HC Naveen Hooda, was assembled under the guidance of ACP (Operations) Dinesh Kumar and the overall command of DCP (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.
The police set up a trap in the Shahbad Dairy locality and successfully intercepted a Tata Intra pickup truck (DL-1LAL-0137).
Upon inspection, officers uncovered 15-20 sacks of cattle feed stacked in the vehicle. Hidden within these sacks were 5,400 quarters and 336 bottles of illicit liquor, all of which were promptly seized.
“A case has been filed under the Delhi Excise Act. The suspect was intending to distribute illegal liquor in Delhi. Suppliers have employed this method to conceal illicit liquor. Following the arrest, this tactic used by illegal liquor distributors has been exposed,” stated the Delhi Police in their press release.
During questioning, Singh admitted to procuring the liquor from Haryana for sale in Delhi.
The police are validating his statements and investigating potential connections to a broader supply network.
The confiscated vehicle and the illegal liquor have been secured, and a case has been registered under the Delhi Excise Act.
