Kolkata, March 22 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) has reported the apprehension of a Bangladeshi smuggler with 3.38 kg of heroin at the India-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district, West Bengal.
The estimated black market value of the seized drugs is approximately Rs 6,77,40,000.
According to N.K. Pandey, DIG and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier, BSF, "Troops from the Pirojpur Border Outpost acted on credible intelligence regarding a narcotic smuggling attempt across the International Border (IBB). The information indicated that the drugs would be brought in from the Sadamachar area. Surveillance was intensified at the border. Around 4 p.m., our personnel noticed two individuals approaching from the Indian side. When challenged, they attempted to flee, but our troops successfully apprehended one of them."
The soldiers observed the suspects discarding some packets into the thick bushes before their escape attempt. A detailed search resulted in the recovery of five packets, which contained a brown powdery substance. After weighing, the samples were sent for analysis, confirming that the substance is heroin.
During interrogation, the detained individual admitted to being Bangladeshi and stated that he had crossed the unfenced border to smuggle the drugs. He revealed that an Indian accomplice had given him the packets with instructions to deliver them to a contact in Bangladesh for a monetary reward. He and the narcotics have been referred to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings," Pandey added.
This operation stands as a notable achievement in the relentless efforts to combat smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border, especially in the war against drugs.
He highlighted that the success of this operation is attributed entirely to the dedicated BSF personnel who consistently carry out their duties along the border with unyielding vigilance day and night. Such operations serve to dishearten smugglers and cross-border criminals," he stated.
