Kolkata, May 5 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) has achieved a remarkable milestone by confiscating narcotics valued at approximately Rs 3.38 crore along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal, an official confirmed on Monday.
At around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, personnel from the 71 Bn BSF, stationed at Border Outpost Khandua, detected suspicious activities involving two individuals behind their Domination Line. The troops swiftly directed their searchlights towards the duo and commanded them to halt. However, the individuals evaded capture and escaped towards Atrosia village, utilizing the darkness and nearby structures as cover. The troops refrained from using firearms to prevent any collateral damage,” stated N K Pandey, DIG and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier of BSF.
Following the incident, BSF forces launched an extensive search operation in the vicinity. During a thorough inspection of the underbrush and surrounding areas, they stumbled upon a plastic bag. Upon examination, the bag revealed two packages wrapped in brown tape. The first package contained 10 small cellophane packets filled with a light yellow powder, which preliminarily appeared to be a narcotic substance.
The second package held two additional cellophane packets; one filled with brown powder and the other with light yellow powder. The seized packets were promptly sent for testing, which confirmed the presence of heroin (100 grams) and methaqualone (1.060 kg). The heroin is valued at Rs 20,00,000, while the methaqualone is appraised at nearly Rs 3,18,00,000,” he further elaborated.
The narcotics have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for necessary legal proceedings. The DIG emphasized that this operation marks a significant triumph in the relentless battle against narcotics and smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border.
“All accolades go to our brave BSF jawans, who remain vigilant around the clock, wholly committed to thwarting every smuggling endeavor. Thanks to their alertness and swift action, the morale of smugglers is consistently being undermined, which is a notable accomplishment for the BSF,” he concluded.
