Kolkata, Aug 2 (NationPress) A brave woman constable from the Border Security Force (BSF), stationed at the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, successfully thwarted a significant narcotics smuggling operation into Bangladesh, according to an official report on Saturday.
As per the statement, the Mahila Prahari not only held her ground while the smugglers advanced but also effectively deterred them by firing a warning shot from her Pump Action Gun (PAG). The smugglers abandoned their cargo, which was valued at Rs 3.80 crore.
“Troops from the 71 Bn BSF, assigned to the Khandua Border Outpost, had received intelligence about a potential smuggling operation in their jurisdiction. All personnel were put on high alert. At approximately 11:30 p.m., the on-duty female constable observed two individuals approaching the IBB suspiciously, carrying some items. She quickly alerted her colleagues by signaling with a torch and confronted the smugglers. Despite her challenge, the smugglers advanced, prompting her to issue another warning. When that failed to deter them, she fired a shot from her PAG. This time, the smugglers discarded their goods and fled towards Raninagar village,” a senior BSF official reported.
“By then, other jawans arrived and conducted a search operation, recovering two large bundles. These were transported to the BOP. Inside the bundles were 1.030 kg of Methaqualone, 7.120 kg of Codeine, and 10 boxes of Brucine Anhydrous (25 grams each). The total estimated value of the illegal drugs is Rs 3,80,45,960. Further investigations are ongoing to identify the smugglers involved,” he added.
In another significant incident, troops from the 102 Bn BSF, stationed at Ghojadanga Border Outpost in the North 24-Parganas district, successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt and seized three gold biscuits weighing 466.290 grams, valued at Rs 46,94,794.
The confiscated narcotics and gold have been handed to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
The official commended the troops' efforts, stating: “Our Jawans, including female personnel, remain vigilant at the borders, committed to preventing all smuggling attempts. These achievements underscore their dedication and efficiency.”
He encouraged border residents to report any smuggling activities to the BSF via the 'Seema Sathi' helpline at 14419 or through WhatsApp voice or text messages at 9903472227. Individuals providing credible information will be rewarded, and their identities will be kept confidential.
