Kolkata, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) reported that a female constable from the Malda Sector effectively halted a significant infiltration attempt by Bangladeshi nationals near the Kutadah Border Outpost on Wednesday.

A contingent of five to six armed individuals from Bangladesh was nearing the border fence close to Aradhpur in West Bengal's Malda district when the constable from the 88 Bn BSF confronted them single-handedly.

She exhibited remarkable bravery and did not hesitate to advance despite realizing that the individuals were armed with lethal weapons. It was unclear whether they were smugglers, but they had illegally crossed into Indian territory and were approaching the border fence—150 yards from the zero line—with the intention to breach it,” stated N K Pandey, DIG and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier, BSF.

DIG Pandey explained that the Mahila Constable was on duty during the second shift when she noticed the suspects moving towards the fence.

“She promptly issued a warning and alerted her fellow officers via radio. Despite the warning, the Bangladeshi nationals took an aggressive stance and continued advancing,” he remarked.

DIG Pandey asserted that disregarding her personal safety, the courageous Mahila Constable charged towards the group.

“By the time they were close to the fence, they would have begun damaging it had she not discharged a shot from her service rifle. Upon hearing the gunfire and recognizing her determination, the assailants fled, utilizing the dense fog as cover. The chance of any of the intruders sustaining injuries from the firing cannot be dismissed,” the DIG added.

Addressing the performance of Mahila Constables stationed along the perilous and crime-ridden Indo-Bangladesh Border, he mentioned: “Their skills, commitment, and valor are unparalleled, and they are entirely capable of mitigating any form of criminal activity and safeguarding the nation's borders.”
