Kolkata, April 13 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted attempts to smuggle a country-made single-shotter pistol and 22 kg of Ganja across the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB) during separate operations in the North 24-Parganas and Nadia districts of West Bengal on Saturday.

Troops from the 32 Bn BSF, stationed at the Tungi Border Outpost in Nadia district, observed a group of 5-6 individuals acting suspiciously near the International Border (IB) around 5.55 a.m. on Saturday. When confronted, the group retreated back into India.

The jawans pursued the suspects, but they managed to escape due to poor visibility and waterlogged conditions. A thorough search subsequently uncovered a plastic packet containing a single-shot country-made pistol intended for smuggling into Bangladesh, as reported by the BSF's South Bengal Frontier spokesperson.

A senior BSF official expressed concerns regarding cross-border smuggling of weapons, especially amid reports of daily mob violence in Bangladesh. Such arms, whether homemade or advanced, could potentially be wielded by criminals against innocent people across the border.

On the same day, personnel from the 102 Bn BSF, located at the Kaijuri (Kalyani) Border Outpost, along with members from the 32 Bn at the Horandipur Border Outpost in North 24-Parganas, seized 22 kg of Ganja.

Once again, the smugglers exploited the darkness and uneven terrain to evade capture. The confiscated weapon and Ganja have been submitted to relevant enforcement agencies for further legal proceedings, the spokesperson added.

According to him, the BSF's intelligence department is currently investigating the origins of the smuggling attempt involving the seized weapon.

He emphasized that the success in halting such smuggling activities has been made possible by the vigilance of the troopers stationed along the porous and challenging border.
