Kolkata, July 16 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted numerous smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh Border (IBB) on Wednesday. In a significant operation, seven Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally cross into India were driven back, and 30 cattle were rescued from cross-border smugglers. Various drugs and illicit materials were also confiscated.
These achievements were documented in the regions of North 24-Parganas, Nadia, and Malda districts of West Bengal.
“Acting on intelligence reports regarding cattle smuggling near the Itaghati Border Outpost, personnel from the 88 Bn BSF heightened their alert status. A specialized ambush team was also prepared. At approximately 4:30 am, the ambush team spotted 20-22 smugglers hurrying toward the border fence with cattle. The BSF personnel ordered the smugglers to halt, but they fled, utilizing the cover of darkness and the muddy terrain. A subsequent search resulted in the recovery of 17 large and eight medium-sized buffaloes,” stated a senior BSF official.
Members of the 71 Battalion successfully rescued four heads of cattle near the Boyraghat Border Outpost, while another buffalo was reclaimed by troops at the Sovapur Border Outpost.
“Several more successes were recorded throughout the day. The 146 Bn personnel at Narsaripara Border Outpost in the Nadia district seized 8.2 kg of Ganja, while troops from the 143 Bn intercepted a shipment of prohibited and illegal medications. Additionally, BSF forces in North 24 Parganas effectively prevented the infiltration of seven Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter Indian soil,” the official elaborated.
The rescued cattle will be transferred to the Dhyan Foundation after the e-tagging procedure is finalized, while the confiscated medications and other illegal items will be forwarded to relevant authorities for appropriate legal action.
“The Border Security Force is diligently executing rigorous strategies to combat smuggling and unauthorized infiltration. The force is wholly dedicated to eradicating all forms of illegal activities along the border. Our personnel maintain constant vigilance and are thoroughly trained to counter any smuggling or infiltration attempts,” remarked N K Pandey, DIG and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier, BSF.
