Greater Noida, Aug 16 (NationPress) - A 24-year-old B. Tech (Computer Science) student at Sharda University in Greater Noida has reportedly died by suicide in his hostel room, according to police reports received on Saturday.
The student, named Shivam Dey from Madhubani, Bihar, was discovered hanging in the HMR hostel on Friday.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted, secured the body, and arranged a post-mortem examination. A forensic team also conducted an investigation at the site.
Authorities confirmed that a suicide note was found in the room, where Shivam mentioned personal issues and made several pleas.
"If you are reading this, I am no longer alive. My passing is a choice I made. No one else is at fault here. This has been my plan for a year," the note stated.
He reportedly disclosed that he had not attended classes for the past two years and requested a refund of unused fees be issued to his family.
Additionally, he expressed a wish to donate his organs and raised concerns regarding the nation's education system, stating: "For this country to excel, the education system must first be reformed."
The student's family claimed that the university failed to notify them about his prolonged absence from classes.
Police stated that all potential factors are under investigation. "The case is being examined thoroughly, and all angles will be explored," an official commented.
In a related incident earlier in July, a second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student at the same university also died by suicide in the women's hostel, citing humiliation and mental harassment from two faculty members.
Following the discovery of the suicide note, two university staff members were arrested as protests erupted on campus over the incident.
