Bhopal, Nov 12 (NationPress) In a shocking incident, burglars reportedly invaded the residence of woman IAS officer Alka Singh Wamankar in the high-security area of Char Imli, Bhopal, absconding with valuables, including gold and silver jewellery valued at over Rs 10 lakh.
Wamankar, who is presently serving as Deputy Revenue Commissioner, had been away in Karala for 15 days for her husband's medical treatment and returned to Bhopal on Tuesday, as confirmed by police on Wednesday.
Upon her return, she discovered that the main gate's lock was broken, and the lock to her bedroom was ajar, with jewellery and other valuables like a wristwatch missing from her almirah.
Immediately, Wamankar visited Habibganj police station to file a complaint on Tuesday night. The police promptly launched an investigation into this theft; however, no leads have surfaced as of yet.
According to Sanjeev Chauksey, the SHO of Habibganj police station, "An FIR has been registered based on Alka Singh Wamankar's complaint. A police team was dispatched to the scene without delay, and an investigation is underway."
Chauksey also noted that CCTV footage from the Char Imli colony is being reviewed to identify the burglars, and a forensic team conducted an inspection on-site Wednesday.
Sources inform IANS that police have detained a suspect for interrogation, although no official confirmation has been released regarding this matter.
It’s noteworthy that Char Imli, a high-security neighborhood under Habibganj police jurisdiction, houses numerous IAS, IPS officers, cabinet ministers, judicial officials, and other prominent individuals.
This isn't the first incident of its kind in this secure area over the past three months, raising concerns about law and order in Bhopal. In a previous incident in September, two assailants on a motorcycle snatched mobile phones from a senior IPS officer and his wife while they were out for a walk, leaving the Bhopal police in a difficult position. However, the suspects were apprehended shortly after.
