Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Oct 1 (NationPress) The lifeless body of a businessman from Howrah district, which is near Kolkata, West Bengal, was discovered on Wednesday within a residential complex in Chandannagar, located in Hooghly district.
The individual has been identified as Wasim Akram. Reports indicate that he had been missing from his Howrah home for three days. His body’s recovery under suspicious circumstances stirred significant concern in Chandernagar on Wednesday evening, coinciding with the last day of Maha Navami, which marks the conclusion of the ongoing Durga Puja festival.
The 30-year-old Akram was engaged in gemstone trading and had been unaccounted for since September 28. On that very evening, his family reported him missing at the Golabari Police Station in Howrah.
Local law enforcement agencies were actively searching for him, and ultimately, his body was found on Wednesday evening in a flat within a residential complex in Chandernagore.
The flat where Akram's body was located was rented by a person named Kazi Mohsin, who had business ties to the deceased. Mohsin, also a gemstone trader, has since been apprehended by the police.
Akram's family suspects foul play and believes he was murdered, potentially due to business rivalries. Notably, Akram was scheduled to marry on October 28.
According to a law enforcement official, when Akram's body was found, his hands were bound with tape, and his lips were also taped shut. A large trolley bag was recovered from the room where his body was discovered.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, with the precise cause of death expected to be confirmed once the autopsy report is released.
The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
