Kolkata, Sep 8 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court has granted a conditional approval for Kunal Ghosh, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, to travel internationally.

His lawyer, Ayan Chakraborty, recently petitioned the court, requesting permission for Ghosh to visit the UK and Ireland to participate in various cultural events.

During the hearing, Chakraborty emphasized that Ghosh has consistently adhered to legal protocols, having previously traveled abroad with court consent.

The single-judge bench, led by Justice Suvra Ghosh, took into account the arguments presented and allowed the Trinamool Congress leader to travel. However, Ghosh is required to deposit Rs 5 lakh with the court, which will be refunded upon his return.

Ghosh remains on bail after being arrested for his involvement in the multi-crore Saradha Chit Fund Scam back in 2013. He was released on bail in October 2016 after spending nearly three years in custody. He has returned Rs 2.67 crore that he received from the Saradha Group for his work in media and advertising.

Since his release, Ghosh has had to keep his passport with the Calcutta High Court, necessitating court permission for any international travel.

Earlier this year, he was granted permission to accompany Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on her visit to London, where she was to deliver a lecture. At that time, he again deposited Rs 5 lakh for authorization to travel.

Point of View

The recent decision by the Calcutta High Court to allow Kunal Ghosh to travel abroad reflects a balance between legal constraints and individual freedoms. It emphasizes the importance of adhering to court protocols while engaging in cultural diplomacy.
