New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended an Assistant Engineer (AE) from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in a bribery scandal, as confirmed by officials on Saturday.
The individual, identified as Hukam Singh Meena, was stationed at the MCD’s Shahdara South Zone, QUC Office in Ghazipur. He was caught while allegedly soliciting and receiving illicit payment from a complainant related to his official duties.
The CBI initiated a case on March 18 after receiving complaints about the accused demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 to expedite the clearance of a bill verification file for the complainant.
Following the complaint, the agency set up a sting operation on March 19. During this operation, Meena was caught in the act while accepting Rs 18,000 as part of the bribe.
He is now in custody, and the investigation is ongoing to uncover the full scope of the misconduct and any potential involvement of additional officials.
This incident underscores the CBI’s relentless efforts to combat corruption within public sectors. The agency has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting transparency and accountability in governance, encouraging citizens to report cases of bribery or misconduct by public officials.

Just days prior, on March 17, the CBI arrested a junior engineer, Ravindra Kumar, from the South Eastern Railway for allegedly accepting a bribe from a private company representative to facilitate an electrical connection at a site office in Jharkhand.
On March 16, the CBI announced the arrest of a medical officer, Dr. Ashish Shakya, affiliated with the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), along with a private hospital executive, Bijendra Singh, concerning an alleged bribery case involving improper benefits to an empaneled hospital in Uttar Pradesh.
