Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody an Assistant Engineer (AE) and a Beldar, both affiliated with the MCD in the Shahdara Zone of Delhi, for allegedly soliciting and accepting an illicit payment of Rs. 2 lakh from a complainant, as confirmed by officials on Wednesday.
The CBI reported that it initiated the case on December 22, 2025, against the implicated Beldar.
The individuals detained have been identified as Assistant Engineer Ashish Siwach and Beldar Mahesh Kumar, both working at MCD, Shahdara Zone, Delhi.
According to the allegations, the Beldar, acting on behalf of the JE and AE, requested Rs. 2 lakh from the complainant to prepare the Closure Report concerning the complainant's building, which was previously booked by the AE from MCD, Shahdara Zone.
In an effort to apprehend the suspects, the CBI executed a sting operation on December 22, 2025, successfully capturing both the AE and Beldar in the act of demanding and accepting Rs. 2 lakh.
Both accused individuals have since been arrested, and the agency has indicated that an investigation is ongoing.
This incident closely follows the CBI's arrest of a Superintendent from CGST Audit-I in Mumbai, who was apprehended for accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh from a complainant.
The Superintendent, identified as Ankit Aggarwal, was arrested on Monday.
The CBI noted that they registered this case on December 22, 2025, following a formal complaint from the Director of a Private Company, who alleged the Superintendent's demand for illegal compensation.
The Superintendent had conducted an audit of the complainant's company on November 26, 2025.
The complainant alleged that the Superintendent threatened to create a fabricated tax liability of Rs. 98 lakh against the company and sought Rs. 20 lakh as a bribe to resolve the matter.
After discussions, the Superintendent consented to accept Rs. 17,00,000 in illegal compensation in exchange for reducing the alleged tax burden on the complainant's company.
A portion of this bribe, Rs. 5 lakh, was scheduled to be delivered on December 22.
The CBI set up a trap and caught the Superintendent red-handed while receiving the Rs. 5 lakh as part of the bribe.
