New Delhi, Aug 12 (NationPress) The CBI has apprehended two engineers from the CPWD and two contractors in connection with a bribe of Rs 6 lakh intended for the approval of invoices from a specific firm, revealed an official statement on Tuesday. During the follow-up searches, approximately Rs 55 lakh in cash was confiscated.

On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation announced the arrests of Jai Prakash, the Executive Engineer (Civil) from the S-Division in R.K. Puram, and Prabhat Chaurasiya, the Assistant Engineer (Civil) from the S-Division in Chanakyapuri, along with two private individuals.

According to the CBI, a total of eight engineers and three private individuals have been named in the FIR. Investigative operations were carried out in ten locations, resulting in the seizure of Rs 55 lakh in cash.

The suspects face charges related to criminal conspiracy, soliciting illicit benefits as public servants, bribery of public officials, bribery by commercial enterprises, and abetment, according to statements from the CBI.

The case was initiated on Monday against twelve individuals, including the four arrested, along with a company identified as Shubham Electricals. The private contractors implicated in the FIR consist of Shubham Goel, Rajesh Goel, and Vijay Kant Shukla.

The CBI set a trap following intel that a private contractor intended to pay a bribe of Rs 6 lakh to the Executive Engineer on August 11.

According to the FIR, this bribe was solicited in return for granting undue advantages to private contractors regarding contract awards, permitting the use of substandard construction materials, and approving inflated bills, thus causing significant losses to the government and unjust profits for the contractors, all while neglecting public safety.

Reports indicate that Shubham Goel of Shubham Electricals, a private contractor, had been awarded numerous contracts by the CPWD in the Chanakyapuri subdivision.

The FIR detailed that Jai Prakash, the Executive Engineer, sought a 4% share of every passed bill as a bribe from Shubham Goel.

In discussions regarding this demand, Shubham Goel suggested to Prabhat Chaurasiya to secure 5% from other private contractors so that he could retain 1% after deducting Jai Prakash's share of 4%, according to the FIR.
