Mumbai, June 6 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a Junior Engineer assigned to the office of GE (NW), NOFRA, Mumbai, for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe amounting to Rs 4.5 lakh, according to a statement released on Friday.
The apprehension occurred during a trap operation executed by the agency on June 5.
The CBI reported that the accused had initially requested a bribe of Rs 5.5 lakh from the complainant to expedite the processing and clearance of pending bills pertaining to the complainant's business. However, after negotiations, the demanded bribe was lowered to Rs 4.5 lakh.
Following a formal complaint, the CBI promptly registered a case and launched their operation. The agency successfully captured the Junior Engineer in the act of accepting the bribe.
On Friday, the accused was presented before a Special CBI Court in Mumbai, which subsequently ordered his remand in police custody until June 9 for further questioning.
