Ranchi, March 17 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a junior engineer from the South Eastern Railway on accusations of accepting a bribe from a representative of a private company to facilitate an electrical connection at a site office located in Jharkhand, officials reported on Tuesday.
The individual in question has been named as Ravindra Kumar, a Junior Engineer specializing in Electrical work, assigned to Bhojudih in Bokaro under the Adra Division of the South Eastern Railway.
The CBI disclosed that a case was initiated on March 16 based on claims that Kumar demanded an unjust advantage of Rs 15,000 from the complainant to secure an electrical connection for the private firm's site office.
In response to the complaint, the agency performed a preliminary verification of the claims and subsequently set a trap to catch the accused during the act of accepting the bribe.
According to CBI officials, the junior engineer was caught in the act while receiving a part of the demanded sum.
“The accused public servant was apprehended while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant,” the agency stated.
After the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at both the office and residential locations of the accused to gather further evidence related to the case.
At the time of this report, the searches were ongoing, and additional materials pertinent to the investigation were under examination.
The accused is expected to be presented before the appropriate court after the completion of the necessary legal processes, as per the agency.
Meanwhile, investigators are also probing whether Kumar had engaged in similar corrupt activities in the past or if any other officials might have been complicit in the alleged bribery.
The CBI anticipates that more information will come to light as the investigation continues and the evidence collected during the searches is analyzed.
