New Delhi, July 1 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended six individuals, including three doctors, for allegedly submitting favorable inspection reports in exchange for bribes at a medical college located in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The CBI executed searches at over 40 locations across Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh as part of this investigation, according to reports.
A case was registered against the office-bearers of Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Nava Raipur, along with the inspecting doctors and other intermediaries for manipulating the statutory inspection process to attain recognition for the medical college in exchange for bribes.
The designated assessors are accused of providing favorable reports to various medical institutions in return for illegal gratification.
Following intelligence reports indicating that officials from Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute were attempting to influence assessors to produce favorable reports for bribes, the CBI set a trap and apprehended six individuals during the transaction of the bribe amount totaling Rs 55 Lakh, the CBI stated.
“As per the demands of the inspecting doctors, the bribe was delivered in Bengaluru. The apprehended individuals will be presented before the appropriate courts in the respective locations,” the agency added.
The accused will face legal proceedings in their respective jurisdictions.
Multiple modus operandi were reportedly utilized by the accused to manipulate the process by illegally swaying inspecting doctors.
The CBI has identified various tactics employed by the accused to distort the statutory inspection process, revealing systemic issues in the oversight of medical institutions.
This scandal raises significant concerns regarding the integrity of medical education in India, as fraudulent inspection reports could undermine the quality of training for future healthcare professionals.
The ongoing investigation aims to dismantle the corruption network and ensure all parties involved are held accountable.
As the CBI advances its investigation, this case highlights the crucial need for enhanced oversight and transparency in the accreditation process for medical colleges.
