Bhubaneswar, July 1 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, urged administrative and relevant officials to carry out their responsibilities during the forthcoming Rath Yatra rituals with utmost dedication, emphasizing that they should act not just as officials, but as humble servants of Lord Jagannath.
After leading a high-level review meeting on preparations for the Rath Yatra in Puri, Majhi stated, “It is imperative that administrative officials perform their designated tasks impeccably. They must approach their duties as servants of Lord Jagannath, ensuring the seamless and effective execution of the Rath Yatra.
On Tuesday, Majhi visited the revered coastal town of Puri for the first time following the tragic stampede near Gundicha Temple on Sunday, which claimed the lives of three pilgrims and injured several others.
During the high-level meeting in Puri, he evaluated the administrative preparedness and safety measures for the upcoming significant rituals.
The Chief Minister shared with the media that productive discussions took place during the meeting. He expressed the state government's commitment to ensuring the smooth conduct of the three major upcoming rituals - Bahuda Yatra, Suna Besha, and Niladri Bije - alongside addressing the challenges faced by the servitors of the Jagannath Temple.
Majhi highlighted three critical areas of security: ensuring safe chariot movement and effective crowd management, regulating traffic, and implementing fire safety measures.
He advised police and administrative officials to conduct real-time crowd estimation to guarantee a safe and smooth execution of the rituals.
“Among the four main events of Rath Yatra, three key ones - Bahuda Yatra, Suna Besha, and Niladri Bije - are still on the horizon. With favorable weather, a significant number of devotees are expected, particularly on Suna Besha. We must be fully prepared for any unexpected developments,” remarked the Chief Minister.
He instructed that sufficient forces be deployed in sensitive areas and that strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) be maintained.
Moreover, he advocated for the rationalization of cordon passes to alleviate overcrowding within restricted zones and stressed the importance of creating chariot pulling protocols in collaboration with temple servitors (Maharana and Bhoi Sevaks).
The Chief Minister underscored the necessity for independent traffic control and coordination with the police to secure the beach area, where a large crowd is anticipated during the remaining events.
He directed fire services to collaborate with law enforcement for beach safety, emphasizing the significance of temple precincts and transit points.
Majhi also recommended stringent surveillance at key locations, including the Puri-Bhubaneswar highway, railway stations, bus stands, temple entrances, and beach areas.
“Serving Lord Jagannath during Rath Yatra is not just a duty; it is a divine honor,” he conveyed to the officers, encouraging all present to work with unity, dedication, and a spirit of devotion.
