New Delhi, Oct 29 (NationPress) The CBI has initiated a new case regarding disproportionate assets against Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who has been suspended and detained on bribery allegations.

The CBI apprehended Bhullar while he was accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 5 crore.

During subsequent investigations, CBI uncovered Rs 7.5 crore in cash, 2.5 kg of gold jewellery, 26 luxury watches, two high-end vehicles, 100 litres of alcohol, along with documents pertaining to 50 immovable assets.

The agency has now filed a new case of disproportionate assets, indicating acquisition of assets beyond his known income sources.

The initial report was registered following a complaint by Inspector Sonal Mishra, detailing allegations from a previous case on October 16, where Bhullar was caught demanding and accepting Rs 5 lakh in illegal payment.

Documents seized from his residence included properties in Chandigarh (house number 1489, Sector 40-B, and Flat No. 1014, Sector 39) and records for acquiring approximately 150 acres of agricultural land in Mohali, Hoshiarpur, and Ludhiana as well as commercial properties.

The allegations suggest that the assets found are disproportionate to his known income, which prima facie indicates that Bhullar illicitly enriched himself during the provisional check period from August 1 to October 17.

Last week, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann suspended IPS officer Bhullar.

The Chief Minister emphasized that corruption-free governance is a fundamental principle of the state government, demonstrated through consistent actions over the last four years.

Mann has reiterated that the Punjab government adheres to a strict zero-tolerance policy, ensuring that no individual found guilty of corruption escapes accountability.

He stated that, in line with this policy, the IPS officer arrested by a central agency for corruption has been suspended. He highlighted that corrupt practices undermine public trust, weaken institutions, and obstruct national progress, making the eradication of this issue a top priority for his government.

He announced that the Deputy Inspector General of Police would also be suspended, reiterating that no officer or politician, regardless of their status, will be spared if found guilty of this serious crime against society.

Subsequently, Bhullar was arrested and placed into 14 days of police custody.
