New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a clerk from the Coal Mines Provident Fund in Madhya Pradesh for soliciting and receiving a bribe of Rs 1.3 lakh to facilitate the release of a deceased subscriber’s fund amounting to Rs 50-60 lakh to his family.

Umashankar Tiwari, who serves as a PF Clerk at the Sub Area office of SECL, located in Nowrozabad, District Umaria, demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from Raj Kumar Barman, the son of Babu Nandan Barman, in order to release the substantial sum held in his father’s PF account.

The CBI filed a case on Monday against two individuals, including the Commissioner of the Coal Mines Provident Fund at the Regional Office in Jabalpur, and Tiwari, based on allegations of seeking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh for the release of the Provident Fund (PF) belonging to the complainant’s father.

The complaint stated that the complainant’s father was employed at the Kudri Coal Mines and passed away on May 14, 2021. The complainant made several visits to the PF office in Nowrozabad to retrieve his father’s Provident Fund, where he encountered Tiwari.

The CBI FIR indicated that the clerk purportedly informed Raj Kumar Barman, a resident of Katni district in Madhya Pradesh, and his relative Kaushal Barman, that the PF funds would remain inaccessible until they disbursed a certain amount.

Subsequently, the clerk reached out to Kaushal Barman, inviting him to the Jabalpur Regional Office of the Coal Mines Provident Fund to meet the accused Commissioner.

After their meeting with the Commissioner, the accused PF clerk allegedly told them that their issue would be resolved and reiterated his demand for a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.

He allegedly stated that Rs 2.50 lakh was to be given to the Commissioner. Following this, the accused PF clerk made multiple calls to Kaushal Barman, insisting on the bribe and requesting an initial payment of Rs 1.50 lakh.

The CBI set a trap and apprehended the PF clerk in the act of accepting the initial bribe installment of Rs 1.30 lakh from the complainant, as reported in a statement.

Later, under the direction of the Regional Commissioner, an office security guard accepted the bribe amount of Rs 1.30 lakh and was subsequently arrested by the CBI.

Searches conducted by the CBI at the accused's premises led to the discovery of incriminating documents, according to a CBI statement.
