Srinagar, May 10 (NationPress) The announcement of a ceasefire by India and Pakistan on Saturday has been met with widespread approval from political leaders across various parties, as well as from the general populace in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was the first to express his support for the declaration made by Vikram Misri, India’s foreign secretary, which indicated that the DGMOs of both nations have agreed to maintain a ceasefire on land, in the air, and at sea starting at 5 p.m.

The foreign secretary stated that the two DGMOs would communicate again on May 12 following the cessation of hostilities.

In comments to reporters, Omar Abdullah noted that this ceasefire announcement represents a positive development, bringing relief to people in J&K and across the nation, although he emphasized the significant loss of innocent lives and damage to infrastructure in Poonch and Uri.

“Our immediate focus is on providing relief to the affected individuals and rebuilding the infrastructure that suffered due to extensive shelling from across the LoC,” Abdullah remarked.
