Brisbane, Nov 8 (NationPress) India's captain Suryakumar Yadav praised the team's remarkable teamwork and resilience after securing a 2-1 T20I series victory against Australia, even though rain led to a washout at The Gabba. India was at 52/0 in just 4.5 overs before the match was halted due to severe weather conditions.
“The way everyone contributed and how we recovered from being 0-1 down is commendable. It was a solid series with excellent performances with both bat and ball, as well in the field. Our fast bowlers and spinners understand their roles well. The combination of Bumrah and Arshdeep is incredibly potent,”
said Suryakumar during the post-match awards ceremony.
“With Axar and Varun performing at their best and Washy making a valuable contribution in the last match, they bring considerable experience from their extensive T20 careers and have faith in their abilities,” he continued.
As India prepares to face South Africa and New Zealand in upcoming T20 series at home before the T20 World Cup, Suryakumar expressed that the team's depth presents a ‘good headache to have’.
“It's a good challenge to have - many players are excelling. Competing against three strong teams - Australia, SA, and NZ - will be a fantastic lead-up to the World Cup. The support for the women's team during their recent World Cup victory was phenomenal. It promises to be an exciting tournament, but there's still time. We have two more series to focus on,” he added.
Australia's captain Mitchell Marsh acknowledged India's superior performance and the weather interruptions that resulted in multiple abandoned games. “I can't recall the last time we had so many rain delays. Overall, it was a fantastic series. India performed exceptionally when it mattered, congratulations to them,” he stated.
Marsh emphasized the importance of adaptability within Australia’s squad as they build depth ahead of the T20 World Cup. “There are many lessons to take forward. The adaptability in our group and the squad we're forming in this World Cup year is impressive,” he noted.
“Players have stepped up, fulfilling their roles, which is what we expect. With the Ashes approaching, there are always changes in international cricket, but our squad, when fully fit, is well settled,” he mentioned.
Looking ahead, Marsh reflected, “The Big Bash is coming up for the players to enjoy, and hopefully, the Scorchers will succeed. As for who will captain the T20 World Cup - me or Pat Cummins - that's a good question. I believe I'll be there.”
