New Delhi, June 19 (NationPress) Representatives from the Central American Integration System (SICA) member nations expressed their gratitude towards India's proactive approach in enhancing global South-South cooperation during a virtual discussion focused on India-SICA collaboration held on Wednesday.
The Indian delegation was headed by Rajesh Vaishnaw, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), while SICA was represented by Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of Costa Rica, Alejandro Solano; Director of International Cooperation at the SICA Secretariat, Carmen Marroquin, along with senior officials and representatives from other member countries.
Currently, Costa Rica holds the Pro-Tempore Presidency of SICA, which will transition to Panama later this year.
In his remarks, the Additional Secretary emphasized that the India-SICA partnership is grounded in a solid foundation of mutual respect, shared democratic values, and a commitment to sustainable development and South-South cooperation. India has played a significant role in various initiatives within this region through its development cooperation programs, including the ITEC capacity-building platform, Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), and a dedicated grant program for SMEs,” stated a MEA release issued on Thursday.
The Additional Secretary also pointed out India's achievements in digital transformation, affordable healthcare and medicine, disaster resilience, and renewable energy, expressing India's readiness to enhance cooperation in these domains with SICA member nations for collective prosperity and sustainable growth.
The representatives from the SICA Secretariat and member countries acknowledged India's proactive role in promoting global South-South cooperation. They noted that cooperation between India and SICA will strengthen through ongoing political dialogue and regional initiatives,” the statement elaborated.
Key areas of collaboration identified during the meeting included food and nutritional security, health, connectivity, agriculture, digital transformation, energy, and trade and investment.
SICA representatives also expressed their gratitude to India for its assistance during critical times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and various natural disasters affecting the region.
