'The Truth Will Emerge': NCP Leader Rupali Chakankar Critiques 'Malicious' Defamation Campaign Linked to Anonymous Letter
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 14 (NationPress) Former Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Women's Commission, Rupali Chakankar, has broken her silence regarding a series of recent allegations linked to the self-proclaimed godman Ashok Kharat. On Tuesday, she expressed her strong discontent over a malicious campaign aimed at damaging her and her family's reputation, which she described as deliberate and fabricated.
The controversy is centered around an anonymous letter currently being examined by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Chakankar raised concerns about the motives behind the letter's disclosure to the media, calling for transparency regarding how a document submitted to the police made its way to news outlets prior to any official verification.
"In an effort to achieve a twisted goal of defamation, an anonymous letter received by law enforcement has been leaked to the media, igniting prolonged discussions on television," Chakankar stated, noting her resignation from the Maharashtra NCP women's wing.
"The individuals involved in facilitating this leak should be identified and held accountable."
She referenced Navneet Kanwat, the Beed Superintendent of Police, who informed the media that an anonymous letter without a name or address is devoid of legal significance.
Nevertheless, Chakankar is insisting on a formal investigation to trace the origin and authorship of the deceptive document.
In her detailed statement, she emphasized that while Maharashtra's political landscape is often marred by evidence-based allegations, the current accusations against her— which have persisted for 28 days— are entirely unfounded.
Addressing the Ashok Kharat case, Chakankar firmly denied any involvement in financial misdeeds, land transactions, or any other criminal activities.
"I have consistently maintained a firm stance from the very beginning," Chakankar affirmed.
"Neither I nor my family have any connection to wrongdoing in this case. It is truly unfortunate that a harmful precedent is being established where mental harassment and public shaming are based solely on speculation, rumors, and exaggerated tales," she added.
Chakankar explained her recent absence from media coverage, indicating that her silence was a strategic choice to allow the SIT and other investigative bodies to conduct an unbiased probe without external interference or one-sided narratives.
She concluded with a statement of resilience and confidence in the judicial process.
"I have steadfast faith that the truth will ultimately prevail with utmost clarity," she declared.
