Charge Sheet Submitted in Naveen Babu Death Case; P. P. Divya Identified as Sole Accused

Synopsis

On March 29, the Kerala Police filed a detailed 400-page charge sheet in the case of Naveen Babu's death, naming P. P. Divya, a CPI-M leader, as the only accused. The charge sheet reveals significant details surrounding the case, including allegations made by Divya and the absence of a suicide note.

Key Takeaways

  • The charge sheet consists of 400 pages.
  • P. P. Divya is the only accused in the case.
  • Naveen Babu was found dead on October 15, 2024.
  • Divya publicly accused Babu of corruption during his farewell.
  • No evidence was found to support murder claims.

Kannur, March 29 (NationPress) The Kerala Police submitted a comprehensive 400-page charge sheet to a local court on Saturday regarding the death of Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu, identifying CPI-M leader P. P. Divya as the sole accused.

The charge sheet indicated that the accused is the former Kannur district panchayat president, Divya.

Babu was discovered hanging at his official residence on October 15, 2024, merely a day after he faced public allegations of corruption from Divya.

This incident took place shortly following his official farewell in Kannur.

Divya, at that time the Kannur District Panchayat President, attended Babu's farewell event uninvited, where she accused him of corruption.

The charge sheet also noted that Divya requested a local TV channel to record the event, especially her address.

The investigative team discovered that she shared the footage of her speech via her mobile phone with multiple recipients, which is mentioned in the charge sheet.

It also highlighted the absence of any suicide note and found no evidence to support claims made by Babu's family that it was a murder rather than a suicide.

Interestingly, the charge sheet was filed after the Kerala High Court dismissed a plea from Babu's family earlier this month, which sought a CBI probe into the matter.

Divya claimed that Babu delayed the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a petrol pump application by T. V. Prasanth, an electrician at Kannur Medical College.

It is noteworthy that Prasanth was reportedly a colleague of Divya's husband, raising concerns about potential personal motivations.

A high-level internal departmental investigation concluded that there was no evidence supporting the bribery allegations against Babu, and he did not postpone the license approval.

Following public outcry, Divya was arrested and after spending days in custody, she was granted bail and released from Kannur prison.

With the charge sheet now filed, attention shifts to the upcoming trial, which is anticipated to commence soon, with 82 witnesses providing statements.

Babu's wife stated that based on what has been revealed in the charge sheet, the focus seems solely on the suicide angle and neglects their concerns and suspicions.

"We will be approaching the Apex Court to request an investigation by a central agency," she expressed.
