Imphal, April 7 (NationPress) In a devastating act of violence, two young children tragically lost their lives, and their mother was injured due to a bomb explosion attributed to suspected Kuki militants in the Bishnupur district of Manipur early Tuesday morning, according to officials.

A police spokesperson in Imphal reported that a powerful bomb was launched by the suspected militants, detonating at a residence in Moirang Tronglaobi village around 1 a.m.

The explosion resulted in the immediate deaths of a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old girl.

Their mother, who was present in the home at the time of the blast, suffered injuries.

All three were reportedly asleep when the bomb detonated, which caused extensive damage to parts of the house.

Moirang Tronglaobi is situated near the hilly Churachandpur district, home to the Kuki-Zo communities. This region has seen recurrent violent incidents during the height of ethnic unrest in 2023 and 2024. The area is particularly vulnerable due to its closeness to hill positions that are believed to be occupied by armed Kuki militant factions.

Local residents indicated that bombs launched from the surrounding hills have landed within the village, suggesting the firing positions could be over three kilometers away.

In response to the attack, enraged locals blocked roads and set ablaze three trucks transporting goods towards Churachandpur district, escalating tensions in the area.

The situation in Bishnupur, along with other valley districts, remains extremely tense.

A significant deployment of security forces, led by senior police officials, has been dispatched to the region to initiate combing operations aimed at capturing those responsible for the attack.

Local BJP MLA Shanti Singh condemned the "brutal attack" in Moirang Tronglaobi village, accusing "Kuki narco-terrorists" of involvement.

He stated, "This heinous act is tantamount to terrorism. Such inhumane actions have no place in our society and must be denounced in the most vigorous terms."
