Chandigarh, Oct 4 (NationPress) BJP national General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday praised the decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration to permit Sikh pilgrims to visit Nankana Sahib in Pakistan during the revered occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Gurpurab.

Chugh emphasized that this move showcases the Modi government’s profound understanding of the religious sentiments of Punjabis and the worldwide Sikh community.

He pointed out that while safeguarding national security is a top priority for the government, it has never compromised the faith of the worshippers.

“This equilibrium of security and reverence for sentiments exemplifies Prime Minister Modi’s leadership,” remarked Chugh.

He recalled that after Operation Sindoor, the Ministry of Home Affairs had initially prohibited Sikh groups from traveling to Pakistan due to the existing circumstances.

“However, the government reconsidered its stance because the voice of the Sangat cannot be overlooked. For Sikhs, Nankana Sahib is more than just a holy place; it embodies the living memory of Guru Nanak Dev Ji,” Chugh stated.

Chugh added that this decision is not merely a singular act but part of a broader tradition of respect that Prime Minister Modi has consistently displayed towards Sikhs and Punjabis.

From launching the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor against all odds, to granting FCRA registration for Sri Darbar Sahib, from waiving GST on langar items to globally celebrating the 550th Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev, Prime Minister Modi has repeatedly proven that the pride, heritage, and sentiments of Sikhs are central to his vision.

He highlighted that under Modi’s guidance, justice was finally served to the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, long-standing blacklists that humiliated overseas Sikhs were removed, and persecuted Afghan Sikhs were safely brought to India under Operation Devi Shakti.

“This is the same Prime Minister who bowed his head at Rakab Ganj Sahib, Sultanpur Lodhi, and Patna Sahib, not as a mere custom, but with true devotion to the Gurus,” Chugh concluded.

Point of View

It's vital to recognize the importance of this decision in fostering goodwill and understanding between nations. This gesture by the Modi government not only respects the religious sentiments of Sikhs but also serves as a step towards diplomatic engagement, reflecting a commitment to cultural heritage that transcends borders.
