Patna, April 10 (NationPress) BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has taken aim at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her declaration that she would block the enforcement of the amended Waqf (Amendment) Act in the state. Chugh claimed that the Waqf Act is already active throughout the nation and accused Banerjee of misleading the public. He stressed that India functions within a federal structure.
In an interaction with IANS, Tarun Chugh stated, "The Waqf Act is already in effect across the country. Mamata Banerjee is misleading the populace. The country operates under a federal structure, and Parliament holds the utmost authority. The Act has been ratified and enforced nationwide."
The BJP leader further likened Mamata Banerjee to the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
"Mamata Banerjee has now positioned herself as the new Jinnah of India, with the Trinamool Congress taking on the role previously held by the Muslim League before India's independence. The Muslim League role is now being assumed by the Trinamool Congress. Mamata Ji, please recognize that India has a federal structure and refrain from misleading the public unnecessarily," he added.
Chugh also commented on the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a significant suspect in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, from the United States to India. He termed it a triumph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's diplomatic initiatives and India's steadfast stance against terrorism.
"This is a victory for Prime Minister Modi’s diplomacy. We have established that India maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding terrorism. We have demonstrated that anyone who attacks India, no matter their location in the world, will face repercussions," Chugh remarked.
According to officials, a special chartered flight transporting Rana departed the United States on April 9. Upon his arrival in India, Rana will be apprehended by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is coordinating his extradition with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
Rana is believed to have connections with the ISI and the terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, facing multiple charges under Indian law, including criminal conspiracy, waging war against the Government of India, murder, forgery, and violations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He is anticipated to be detained in a high-security section of Delhi's Tihar Jail and will soon be presented before a Delhi court. However, the Mumbai Police have not yet received official notification regarding his transfer to the city.
