Imphal, Jan 25 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, expressed his heartfelt wishes to all athletes from the state who are gearing up for the 38th National Games. He emphasized the state’s commendable achievement of producing 19 Olympians.
During the blessing ceremony for the Manipur state contingent, which will compete in Uttarakhand starting January 28, the Chief Minister acknowledged that the recent ethnic turmoil in the state may have disrupted the athletes' training routines.
“True success is realized only after surmounting life’s challenges,” he remarked.
This event, held in Imphal, was collaboratively organized by the Manipur Olympics Association and the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Singh expressed his pride in the fact that many athletes are representing Manipur at the National Games.
He reiterated that Manipur has gained international recognition for its contributions in sports, arts, and culture.
He revealed that in a recent cabinet meeting in Tamenglong, the government approved a proposal to offer government jobs to gold medalists from the National Games.
Singh also highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to enhance sports infrastructure and procure modern equipment, stating that the velodrome is currently undergoing upgrades at a cost of Rs 7 crore.
The Chief Minister emphasized that discipline and hard work are crucial for an athlete’s success.
He encouraged athletes to remain optimistic and stated that biases in the selection process should be eliminated to uplift the morale of young competitors.
Around 400 athletes from Manipur are set to compete across 19 disciplines in the upcoming National Games, accompanied by 76 officials from the Manipur Olympics Association.
In a separate initiative, the Chief Minister distributed advanced prosthetic devices, including state-of-the-art myoelectric hands and motorized wheelchairs, to persons with disabilities (PwDs) at the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
Singh mentioned that through the ‘Chief Minister-gi Sotharabasingi Tengbang’ scheme, approximately 9,000 differently-abled individuals have received Rs 1500 each as a form of assistance.
