Imphal, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, emphasized the importance of resolving misunderstandings through dialogue and underlined the need for coexistence among all communities in the state.

During the celebration of the 53rd Statehood Day, the Chief Minister called upon the citizens to cease hostilities against one another and to refrain from engaging in irrelevant discussions that distract from progress and welfare initiatives.

Manipur, together with Meghalaya and Tripura, is commemorating its 53rd Statehood Day with a series of vibrant cultural events and activities. These three northeastern states achieved full statehood on January 21, 1972.

In his speech, Singh asserted that every misunderstanding and suspicion must be resolved through dialogue among the communities, reiterating that the state government is committed to identifying and deporting illegal immigrants.

He stated, “The government has never taken any action against those who have resided in the state for many years or the long-standing settlers. All 33 to 34 communities must coexist harmoniously.”

Singh called on the populace to work collectively towards a flourishing Manipur while upholding the principles of equity, peace, and respect.

Highlighting his government's anti-drug campaign initiated in 2018, he insisted that no government or society can afford to overlook the plight of youth being consumed by drug addiction.

As a result of the operations conducted by security forces, illegal drugs valued between Rs 70,000 and 80,000 crore have been seized, the Chief Minister reported.

He remarked that illegal poppy cultivation, which was once confined to Myanmar and Southeast Asia, has recently expanded into Manipur, leading to the establishment of drug manufacturing facilities in specific regions.

Over 30,000 hectares of poppy fields across multiple districts have been eradicated, and numerous poppy farmers have been apprehended, Singh noted.

During the Statehood Day event, he presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to the esteemed theatre figure and Padma Shri recipient, Dr. Ratan Thiyam.

“A visionary director and former Chairman of the National School of Drama, Dr. Thiyam has effectively promoted Manipur's rich culture and traditions globally while significantly aiding in the preservation of our vibrant heritage,” Singh added.

He also launched a book titled “Know Your Manipur” on this occasion, describing it as a commendable effort that illuminates the rich history, lively culture, and distinct identity of this beautiful state.

The Chief Minister pointed out that individuals from one tribe often lack knowledge about the customs and traditions of the 33 to 34 recognized tribes in the state.

He announced the initiation of the Imphal River Project, which is estimated to cost around Rs. 80 crores.

Singh mentioned that an agreement for the construction of concrete roads in Imphal, amounting to Rs 3,300 crores, is expected to be signed within this month. These concrete roads are designed to last for approximately 30 to 40 years without needing frequent repairs.

Additionally, he revealed that an allocation of Rs 100 crores has been approved for enhancing healthcare services in the hill districts, including Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong.

The healthcare centers will provide access to advanced medical technologies such as CT scans, MRIs, ICU services, and super-specialty care, he concluded.
