An official from the Chief Minister’s Office mentioned that the Prime Minister will address a public gathering at the Assam Rifles ground on the same day, coinciding with the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang railway project.

During the meeting held in the Chief Minister's conference hall, Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena provided a comprehensive update on the current arrangements.

Officials from various departments and stakeholders deliberated on their roles and strategies for organizing both the inauguration event and the public gathering.

The CMO representative noted that the Prime Minister is expected to arrive on September 13, and a public meeting will take place at the Assam Rifles ground in Aizawl.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will not only inaugurate the Bairabi–Sairang railway line but also flag off three new express trains, as stated by the official.

The trio of express trains includes the Aizawl–Delhi Rajdhani Express (from Anand Vihar terminal), Aizawl–Kolkata Express, and Aizawl–Guwahati Express.

Moreover, the Prime Minister will inaugurate two new educational institutions and lay the foundation stones for six additional development projects.

Stretching over 51.38 km, the Bairabi (near Hailakandi district in Assam) to Sairang (near Aizawl city) railway project will establish Aizawl as the fourth capital in the Northeast to gain rail connectivity, joining Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar.

Officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), led by General Manager (Construction) Arun Kumar Chaudhary, are diligently working to finalize preparations for the railway project and the inauguration event.

Union Ministers and senior officials from various ministries, including the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Tribal Affairs, and Road Transport and Highways, are expected to attend the events.

NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, previously noted that the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project is regarded as an engineering marvel of Indian Railways, with an estimated cost of Rs 8,071 crore.

This project includes 48 tunnels, 55 major bridges, and 87 minor bridges, featuring tunnels with a cumulative length of 12,853 meters, with the longest tunnel (Tunnel No. 3) measuring approximately two km.

The height of bridge number 196 reaches 114 meters, surpassing the height of the Qutub Minar by 42 meters, as added by the CPRO.

Additionally, the project encompasses five Road Over Bridges and six Road Under Bridges, along with the construction of four new stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang.

Despite the challenging geographical terrain, NFR has successfully enhanced rail connectivity to Aizawl, overcoming significant engineering challenges to realize this long-awaited project, affirmed CPRO Sharma.
