In his post, CM Dhami wrote — translated from Hindi — 'Humble tribute on the birth anniversary of brave martyr Abdul Hamid Ji, honoured with the Param Vir Chakra, who created immortal history through his unmatched courage, unwavering resolve, and supreme sacrifice for the protection of the nation.' Abdul Hamid was a soldier of the 4 Grenadiers regiment who displayed extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Asal Uttar in Punjab in September 1965. Armed with a recoilless gun mounted on a jeep, he destroyed several Pakistani Patton tanks, halting a major armoured thrust before being fatally wounded in action. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest wartime gallantry decoration.
