A sea of tricolours swept through Mumbai on Monday, August 10, 2026 — Kranti Din, the anniversary of the 1942 Quit India Movement — as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' rally under the national campaign of the same name, turning the occasion into a sweeping declaration of India's ambitions for 2047.

From 1942's 'Bharat Chodo' to 2047's 'Viksit Bharat'

Standing before what he described as an 'ocean of people' gathered for the tricolour, CM Fadnavis drew a direct line from the freedom struggle to the present moment. 'The revolution of 1942 was Bharat Chodo [Quit India],' he said. 'The revolution today is a karo ya maro [do or die] mission to build a Viksit Bharat — and this revolution tells anti-India forces: Bharat Chodo.'

He invoked the sacrifices of revolutionaries and soldiers who died on the border so the tricolour could fly at midnight on 15 August 1947, adding that the flag 'will fly with pride as long as the sun and moon exist.'

India's Space Leap and the Startup Surge Fadnavis Cited

Fadnavis anchored his address in a catalogue of national achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed to Chandrayaan's landing near the lunar south pole — a feat no other country had achieved — as proof of India's scientific mettle. He also cited India becoming the second country after the United States to launch a spacecraft through a private company, and described India as the world's second-largest startup ecosystem.

He credited PM Modi's leadership for India becoming the world's fourth-largest economy, a claim that tracks with the country's documented economic trajectory in recent years. 'India is progressing in every sector,' he said. 'No foreign power can stop this charge.'

The Tiranga Yatra: Nine Days, One Message

The rally is part of a Tiranga Yatra that began on 9 August — Kranti Din — building momentum toward Independence Day on 15 August. The Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, first launched nationally in 2022 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav marking 75 years of independence, has since become an annual patriotic mobilisation drive across states.

Fadnavis also invoked Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj — Maharashtra's presiding deity — pledging that just as the tricolour would fly highest, Maharashtra too would lead the nation. The rally was attended by Legislative Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narwekar, Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLAs Ravindra Chavan and Amit Satam, Padma Shri Bhikalya Ladakya Dhinda, other legislators, and the Mayor of Mumbai.
