Mumbai, July 18 (NationPress) - Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed strong disapproval towards the opposition for their inconsistent stance regarding the Public Security Bill, especially after they had previously endorsed it in the state assembly.
He attributed this reversal to directives from party leaders seeking clarification.
CM Fadnavis noted that the Bill underwent thorough discussions within the Joint Select Committee, and a revised draft was presented to all members, incorporating several suggestions from the opposition.
Despite their earlier support in the assembly, the opposition now opposes the Bill following input from their party leaders.
At a press conference marking the end of the three-week monsoon session, CM Fadnavis, alongside Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, stated: “A total of five meetings were convened to discuss various aspects of the Bill, addressing each section in detail. All queries from the opposition were addressed. Most of their suggestions were incorporated. The revised draft was placed before the committee, and claims that the draft was not shared with them are false.”
“If their concerns were not resolved during the committee meetings, they could have submitted a dissent note. However, they did not provide a written objection. Had they done so, they would have had the opportunity to present their views in the House. Following the bill's approval, the opposition altered their position when prompted by their party,” he elaborated. Nearly 12,500 suggestions regarding the Bill were received, with many inconsistent with the Bill, while others were accepted,” CM Fadnavis added.
He also mentioned that the issue regarding the Guardian Minister post in Nashik would be addressed at an appropriate time and emphasized that farm loan waivers cannot be expected every five years, highlighting the government’s priority on boosting investment in agriculture.
In this monsoon session, significant bills such as the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill were passed. He asserted that all decisions made were for the common good and aimed at propelling development.
Eknath Shinde commented that the opposition squandered their energy protesting outside the legislature instead of engaging in meaningful discussions. He accused them of asking misleading questions and avoiding the House during responses. There appeared to be apathy from the opposition during this session.
Ajit Pawar noted that the session’s achievement included the approval of supplementary demands totaling Rs 57,000 crore.
