The scheme, inaugurated in 2015, was built precisely for moments like this — when the Godavari runs heavy with monsoon inflows and the Krishna delta needs augmentation.

The flip side of that abundance: upstream flows have already sent 521 TMC of Godavari water into the sea — a figure that underscores both the river's seasonal fury and the limits of what any lift scheme can capture before the water is lost to the ocean.

7,158 Cusecs Released Across Delta Canals

With Pattiseema delivering Godavari water reliably, Naidu said releases downstream of Prakasam Barrage are in full swing. The breakdown: 3,928 cusecs through the Krishna Eastern Main Canal, 3,115 cusecs through the Krishna Western Main Canal, and 115 cusecs through the Guntur Channel. Total canal discharge: 7,158 cusecs — water now moving toward delta croplands in time for the kharif growing window.

Andhra Pradesh's delta agriculture has historically been hostage to the variability of Krishna inflows. Inter-basin transfers via Pattiseema were designed to break that dependency, using Godavari surplus as a buffer. The season's transfer numbers suggest the system is performing as intended.
