Chennai, Oct 21 (NationPress) As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach next year, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has enforced a strict ban on foreign travel for all DMK Ministers, MLAs, and district secretaries until the polls are concluded.
Insiders from the party indicate that this move follows a thorough internal assessment of the DMK's grassroots readiness. Over the recent weeks, the Chief Minister has been engaged in direct discussions with constituency-level leaders under the “Varu Sagodharargale (Come, Brothers)” initiative at Anna Arivalayam, the party’s headquarters in Chennai.
Thus far, he has personally interacted with more than 150 constituency heads as part of this effort to enhance the party's electoral structure.
DMK insiders have noted that although the state government has launched numerous welfare initiatives in the last four-and-a-half years, many of these have not been effectively relayed to the public.
“Surveys reveal that the public’s connection with the DMK has diminished because MLAs and local leaders have not been actively engaging with the populace,” a senior official acknowledged.
The Chief Minister also expressed concern that several ministers and legislators have become disconnected from party workers and the community. “They lack awareness of the genuine expectations of men, women, and youth across Tamil Nadu,” a source quoted Stalin as stating.
To address this, Stalin has mandated all ministers and MLAs to stay within their constituencies, directly meet with citizens, listen to their concerns, and ensure prompt solutions through local officials and district collectors.
They have also been instructed to effectively communicate the government’s welfare successes and swiftly resolve internal factional issues within the party.
Only ministers on official foreign trips related to their departments will be allowed to travel abroad -- and that too with prior consent from party leadership. Others must concentrate fully on grassroots work, Stalin emphasized.
The Chief Minister further directed that unresolved intra-party disputes at the district level should be escalated to zonal in-charges and, if necessary, to headquarters administrators.
All internal matters must be settled by the end of this month, he stated. “Only by reconnecting with the public and swiftly addressing grassroots issues can the DMK achieve the victory it aims for in the upcoming Assembly election,” Stalin reportedly told his party associates.
