Chennai, June 14 (NationPress) The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is set to kick off its state-wide membership drive on June 20 as part of a significant organizational effort in anticipation of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin will personally engage with party functionaries from all 234 Assembly constituencies through a program titled ‘Udanpirappe Vaa’.
This initiative was revealed by DMK organization secretary R.S. Bharathi, who confirmed that Stalin aims to complete these constituency-level meetings before the party’s annual Mupperum Vizha celebrations, scheduled for September 17.
As part of this program, Stalin will directly interact with grassroots party members, with the exception of district secretaries, whom he will consult separately.
The meetings are being organized at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, located in Chennai. The first session took place on Friday, where Stalin met with functionaries from Chidambaram, Villupuram, and Usilampatti constituencies.
In a message shared on X, Stalin expressed his intentions: “To communicate the government’s achievements to the public, to counter those aiming to undermine Tamil Nadu, and to strengthen the party’s solid framework -- Udanpirappe Vaa.”
During these interactions, the Chief Minister is accompanied by a panel comprising R.S. Bharathi, party spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan, joint organization secretary Anbagam Kalai, and deputy organization secretaries S. Austin and Thayagam Kavi.
While each meeting was initially scheduled for five minutes, many discussions were extended as Stalin actively engaged with the cadres.
Sources indicate that Stalin arrived equipped with detailed performance reports for each functionary, which guided his questions and discussions. He also solicited feedback and suggestions to bolster preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections.
In a significant gesture, each participant received a signed copy of Stalin’s autobiography ‘Ungalil Oruvan’ during the meeting. An opinion box has been placed at the venue to collect written feedback from participants wishing to share ideas or concerns that they could not express during the meeting.
“We will meticulously review all the inputs we receive,” Bharathi stated.
Stalin also inquired about the coordination levels between local functionaries and district secretaries, highlighting a focus on enhancing intra-party communication.
The next series of meetings will recommence on June 17.
Stalin is expected to visit Thanjavur on June 15 and 16 for official duties. He has already urged party members to ramp up efforts at the grassroots level, aiming for the INDIA bloc to clinch at least 200 of the 234 Assembly seats in the upcoming state elections.
